Book Review and Radio Interview: Innocent: Confessions of a Welfare Mother

Posted by pnaessensshow on February 12, 2013 at 3:30 AM

Picture this if you can; a bright intelligent young lady graduates from college, marries the man of her dreams and within a few short years becomes part of the system known then as AFDC (Aid to Families with Dependent Children)…….and we would say “no way”, right?

Barbara Morrison’s memoir Innocent: Confessions of a Welfare Mother dispels the myths we all have regarding welfare recipients by bravely telling her story of how one of the most unlikely could wind up in major financial trouble.

In Innocent: Confessions of a Welfare Mother Ms. Morrison takes the reader on a well written journey through not just her own life but those of her friends who also found themselves in similar circumstances. Morrison easily shares the daily challenges she and her friends faced and along the way she ably describes the triumphs and the occasional heartaches that also came their way.

Innocent: Confessions of a Welfare Mother describes the daily battles with social workers and the condescending and often judgmental attitudes society demonstrates towards mothers like Morrison without a hint of anger or animosity. There isn’t any “woe is me” attitude in

Innocent: Confessions of a Welfare Mother; it is a humorous and brutal look at her situation and how she got out of it!

This book is a winner and I give it five stars!

I enjoyed the book so much that I invited Ms. Morrison to join me on my syndicated sports show. You can listen to that interview here. You can purchase Innocent: Confessions of a Welfare Mother here.

Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of Innocent: Confessions of a Welfare Mother for review purposes only. Never was I asked for a favorable review nor was it considered payment for an appearance on Phil Naessens Media programs.
