The New York Knicks are off to a impressive 6-1 start. Every team they've defeated thus far were in last year’s post season and their loss this past Friday was to Memphis, arguably one of the best teams in the Western Conference. Here are 10 things I like thus far with this year’s New York Knicks.
). Coach Mike Woodson. He's 24-7 since his hiring late last season and his defense first style has infused life into what was a defensively lazy team. His rotations have been spot on and it’s obvious that he was the right choice to coach this team.
). Carmelo Anthony. The once selfish me first athlete has become selfless and so far has played like a team leader should. Diving after loose balls, playing 100% on both sides of the court and looking to set his teammates up is a different Melo and a BIG reason why the Knicks are 6-1.
). Jason Kidd. He's won wherever he goes and when you talk about doing the little things his picture should be next to the definition. Need a clutch 3 pointer? Deflecting balls in the passing lane? Finding the open man? That's what Kidd does each and every night.
). Raymond Felton. Isn't it nice to have a point guard who can actually play the position on both ends of the floor? Enough said there.
). Rasheed Wallace. SHEED baby! 6-11 guys who shoot like two guards and can bang away for 10 to 15 minutes a night are a rare commodity. Hopefully he's able to stay healthy because he's good forthe Knicks.
). J.R. Smith. This cat grew up this past off season and he's playing the way we all thought he would....he's still a bit of a wild card but when he's on forget about it. At one point this season he was like 15-19 from 3 point land but more importantly he's dropped the selfish me first attitude and has thus far become a leader on this team.
). Ronnie Brewer. This was the Knicks best post season addition. Like Jason Kidd he does the little things like rebound, shut down top scorers and just play hard on both sides of the court. Chicago’s loss is New York’s gain.
). Team Defense. I can't get over how well this team is playing on the defensive end of the floor. Their shoes are squeaking and their tenacity is the reason they are where they are today.
). Team Offense. This isn't a me myself and Melo team any longer. With this team of sharpshooters making that extra pass is mandatory and the reason they crushed Miami on opening night. This also makes the ISO play with Melo all the more effective and thus far it has.
). Clyde the Glide Frazier. Duping and scooping? Posting and toasting? Are you kidding me? I don't care what anyone says I think he's the best color announcer in the NBA. And those crazy suits are awesome! He’s the only reason to watch the games on MSG.
